The first batch of 6 months course meant to create useful professionals in the construction industry started in the year 2008. The announcement of the same published in the leading vernacular newspapers and many students sought admission immediately. Selection of 22 students had been done through written test and personal interview. The course has drawn applicants from diploma–holders in Engineering; both boys and girls have enrolled for the course. The enrolled students were provided all safety gadgets like helmet, gloves and uniform. They were also insured to ward off any untoward incidents during the practical oriented training meant to be completed at various construction sites and manufacturing industry. An Air conditioned and full-fledged, spacious class room facility was made available at Thillainagar, Trichy. The students were given personal care to build up their theoretical and practical knowledge side by side simultaneous to the training on personality developments. To enable them to cope and interact with the national and international players in the future construction industry, the students were given spoken English and Hindi classes by competent trainers in the field.

The step by step elevation of the civil engg knowledge was closely monitored through monthly evaluations and appropriate follow up classes to catch up with the main course and to give proper encouragement and assistance to the students to do well. The groups were assigned separate projects to develop team work through frequently conducted Group Discussions to promote their communication and managerial skills and to make them fit to face any sort of challenging and conflicting situations in the field. Useful tools like Autocad, Microsoft office were also imparted to the students. An exhaustive lecture was arranged on Vastu practices by the renowned personalities on the subject. Besides library facilities were also made available to the students to arouse the anxiety to learn more.

Through series of practical sessions at construction sites at Ariyallur, Dalmiapuram etc under the able guidance of Civil Engg professionals like Ancy, DGM civil DPM, the students were taught the best practices on mortar & concrete preparation. Brick masonry and correct usage of cement and aggregate proportioning for mix designs were also taught during the practical sessions at site . All the students have been exposed to the process of manufacturing at the 5M most modern manufacturing capacity at Dalmiapuram and had given a clear understanding of various kinds of cement including Special Cements for Special Applications.

During the last phase of the course, DIC has organized placement interviews at campus and 100% of the students have been absorbed by the construction industries and all of these students have turned out to be the bread winners of their family. The salary levels of the students who got absorbed in different industries were in the range of 7000 – 9000/ month and employed at the levels of Supervisor.

In a press conference presided by our CEO, the certificates had been awarded to the students with 100% placement orders from various construction industries. "You have given life to my family because now I am the only earning member in my family" so says Abhirama Sundari aged 25, an ex-student of DIC. All the other students who too are working as civil supervisors have the same message and gratitude to convey to DIC for building their life and making them useful to their family. At a larger perspective, their services are now useful to the society and the construction industry, as correct practices, with correct products make mighty, durable and safe buildings, undoubtedly an asset to a growing nation.

A second batch followed the next year. The current and third batch of students are all diploma-holders. Thirty six students have been trained so far spread over three batches. Given the success, it is planned to operate DIC from multiple centres in future.
