Dalmia Bharat and NABARD come together for Watershed Development

Under the Government’s Participatory Integrated Watershed Development project, Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited (DCBL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) today.

Signatories for the MoU were Mrs. Lalitha Venkatesan, Chief General Manager, NABARD and Mr. Vipin Agarwal, CEO – South, Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd (DCBL). Also, present on the occasion were Mr. Vishal Bhardwaj, Assistant Executive Director – CSR, Dalmia Bharat Group. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 2.50 crore which will be borne equally by NABARD and Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd (DCBL).The project will cover the LalgudiTaluk in the Tiruchirapalli district, Tamil Nadu. This includes a watershed area of 942 hectares and 980 hectares in Melarasurand and Kovandakurichi village respectively. As a result, this project will reach out to and in turn benefit nearly 6000 villagers.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Vishal Bhardwaj said, “The joint initiative between Dalmia Cement Bharat Limitedand NABARD is sure to reap huge benefits. Social dynamism has been a priority for the Dalmia Bharat group and we are happy to bring about continual welfare and growth, fulfilling our social responsibility.”

The key objective of the project is to re-charge groundwater, prevent soil erosion, improve soil moisture for higher agro productivity, promote bio mass and improve livelihoods overall. The project is spread over five years and divided into two phases. Phase I is the Capacity Building Phase (CBP) that would last for a year. The remaining four years will be covered under the Full Implementation Phase (FIP). The date of commencement of phase Iwill be decided after signing of the MoU. Dalmia Bharat Group Foundation (DBGF) is the implementing partner.
