Our Carbon Negative Intent

To achieve our intent of becoming a carbon negative cement company by 2040, we continue to follow a precautionary, yet innovative, approach towards minimising our impact on the environment. Our transformational strategies and technological prowess complement our unrelenting sustainable practices to effectively aid us in our drive to be more environmentally friendly. Our climate positive approach includes the adoption of robust environment management systems that monitor and improve the performance on climate change, water, biodiversity, circular economy, effluents and waste management.

We are continuing to pave the way for a sustainable future by setting newer benchmarks globally with our climate action endeavours and by being committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our carbon-negative roadmap is more action oriented, measurable and provides a permanent transitional pathway while aligning it to the 1.5-degree scenario of Paris Climate Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.

Reducing transition risks and creating transition opportunities are top priorities in our journey towards achieving carbon negativity. We have therefore assessed the climate change impact on our operations as per the recommendations and guidelines of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Dalmia Bharat has established a robust governance framework to shape climate change and sustainability strategies.

  • The Board of Directors is the apex body that takes decisions on green investments and climate projects, and reviews the company’s progress in sustainability and climate change. At the board level, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for managing climate-related risks and opportunities.

  • The board level Risk Management Committee (RMC) integrates climate-related risks within the organisation’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and prioritises various risks.

  • At the management level, the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for managing climate-related risks and opportunities. The CRO assists and reports to the RMC on a quarterly basis on the progress of climate-related risks and opportunities.

  • At the plant Level, we have unit SPOCs (specific point of contact) who are responsible for implementing measures aligned to the company’s strategy for climate-related risks and opportunities. The unit SPOCs collect and monitor climate-related data and report the same to the CRO.

We believe in formulating and reporting the positive steps we’re taking on our impactful environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. We are committed to enhancing our climate and sustainability disclosures as we see this as helping improve transparency for our organisation’s climate-related risks and opportunities. We will continue to share the progress with our stakeholders periodically and in the annual disclosures.

At Dalmia Bharat, we continue to demonstrate our intent to becoming climate positive. This has resulted in a reduction in our carbon footprint by 44% as compared to the 1990 baseline. Our sustainable innovation practices has enabled us to attain one of the lowest CO2 footprints in the global cement sector.

As we reinforce our sustainability drive by moving from a grey to green reality, our focus remains on working towards setting up nature-based and carbon capture solutions to decarbonise the cement sector while at the same time, reducing our carbon footprint.
