Dalmia Bharat Foundation Strengthens Rural Water Security and Conservation in Rohtas

Kalyanpur, July 2, 2026 : Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and responsible water stewardship, Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the CSR arm of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited's Rohtas Cement Works, has strengthened access to safe drinking water and improved water conservation infrastructure across the Gram Panchayats of Baknaura, Banjari and Samahuta in Rohtas district through its Integrated Water Management Programme.

Between FY24 and FY26, the Foundation installed seven hand pumps across the three Gram Panchayats, providing access to safe drinking water to more than 600 families. In FY26 alone, four new hand pumps were installed, benefiting an additional 300 families and significantly reducing dependence on distant and unsafe water sources.

Sharing her experience, Mrs. Lalti Kunwar from Samahuta Gram Panchayat said, "Earlier, we had to travel long distances to fetch drinking water. The hand pump installed by Dalmia Bharat has brought clean water close to our homes and provided immense relief to women and children."

To further improve access to safe drinking water, DBF also installed RO water coolers in schools, Panchayat offices, Nawadih Madrasa and the Primary Health Centre in Rohtas, providing purified drinking water to more than 1000 schoolchildren and hundreds of villagers. Complementing these efforts, the Foundation also constructed three farm ponds in Samahuta Gram Panchayat with a combined storage capacity of nearly 7,650 cubic metres of water. Through multiple refill cycles during the monsoon season, these ponds help conserve an estimated 30,000 to 38,000 cubic metres of rainwater annually, contributing to groundwater recharge, improved irrigation and strengthening of the local water table.

Mr. Pappu Paswan from Banjari Gram Panchayat added, "People in the village are no longer dependent on distant water sources. This facility has benefited everyone and improved access to safe drinking water."

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Tiwari, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, Rohtas Cement Works, said, "Access to safe drinking water and sustainable water management remain key priorities for us. Through these initiatives, we are working towards improving quality of life in neighbouring communities while contributing to long-term water security and resilience."

The integrated water management programme has resulted in visible improvements in community health and well-being by reducing water-borne diseases, improving hygiene conditions and significantly reducing the time and effort spent by women and children in fetching water.

Water stewardship is integral to Dalmia Bharat's sustainability approach, with a focus on reducing operational dependency while enhancing water availability for surrounding ecosystems and communities. Through its community initiatives, the company seeks to extend this philosophy beyond plant boundaries and contribute towards building long-term water resilience in neighbouring regions. Dalmia Bharat's sustainability strategy is guided by its commitment to creating shared value for both communities and the environment.
