Sattur, July 24, 2026: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the CSR arm of Dalmia Bharat Limited, one of India’s leading cement companies, has facilitated the formation of a new Women Self-Help Group (SHG) Association in Sankarapuram village, Tamil Nadu, as part of its sustainable rural development initiatives. The association brings together five Women Self-Help Groups comprising 60 members from Uppathur Block in Sattur Taluk, Virudhunagar district, including one Special SHG, underscoring DBF's commitment to foster inclusive community development and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds. The initiative is especially relevant for rural Sattur, where more than 60% of the population lives in villages, making community institutions such as Self-Help Groups vital for promoting entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and diversified livelihood opportunities.
To support the economic advancement of the members, DBF has extended a Livelihood Development Fund of ₹3 lakh to the SHG Association. The fund will enable members to undertake income-generating activities like goat rearing, Milch animal rearing, petty shop development and agriculture , strengthen entrepreneurship, and enhance household incomes, thereby contributing to improved socio-economic well-being. The financial assistance was formally handed over by Mr. T Robert, Plant Head, during a special programme held to commemorate the occasion.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr T Robert, Unit Head, DCBL, Sattur, said, " At Dalmia Bharat, we believe that women's economic empowerment is not only essential for building resilient families and self-reliant communities, but is also a key driver of India's long-term economic growth. This livelihood fund is an investment in the entrepreneurial potential of these women, and we encourage them to utilize it effectively to establish sustainable income-generating activities. Financially empowered women contribute significantly to the well-being of their families, the prosperity of their communities, and ultimately to the nation's inclusive development."
DBF continues to implement a range of community development initiatives across its operational locations. By facilitating Self-Help Groups, supporting women entrepreneurs through livelihood development initiatives, enabling skill development through DIKSHa, and creating opportunities for sustainable income generation, the Foundation is empowering women to become active contributors to their families, communities and local economies.
