CM Ashok Gehlot inaugurates Angdata Smarak to honour Organ Donors in Rajasthan

On the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day, Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot today inaugurated Angdata Smarak in the state’s capital, which is the first of its kind memorial dedicated to organ donors in the country. The memorial has been initiated and conceptualized by Mohan Foundation Jaipur Citizen Forum Navjeevan (MJCF Navjeevan) and pays a befitting tribute to countless individuals, who committed the greatest act of goodness by donating their organs and giving the elixir of life to fellow human beings. Designed by famed Jaipur designer, Samir Wheaton and built by Dalmia Bharat’s cement inspired designing and creative arm, Craft Béton, the memorial has been built at the junction of Prithviraj Road and Tonk Road near SMS Hospital.

The structure of Angdata Smarak is inspired by Jaipur’s most iconic monument Jantar Mantar and will go a long way in spreading awareness about the importance of organ donation. It is often said that successful organ transplantation is nothing short of a re-birth for those who receive this gift. The memorial perfectly captures this emotion since it shows people, awaiting donation of an organ like eye, heart or kidney, look towards the heavens with hope and belief so that they can lead a normal life. The large red heart at the memorial depicts both human life and generosity.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Ashok Gehlot says, “I am delighted to know that MOHAN Foundation- Jaipur Citizen Forum ‘Navjeevan’, has set up a first of its kind Organ Donor Memorial in the country called Angdata Smarak on National Organ Donor Day – November 27, 2020. Through this, we aim to honour the selfless act of those brave hearts who chose to donate their organs and pave a new life for those in need. The construction of the memorial will also inspire people to come forward to donate organs and help people who are suffering to get a new life. I am glad to inaugurate the organ donation memorial and would like to congratulate Mohan Foundation for organizing this event.”

Speaking on the importance of organ donation, Mr. Mahendra Singhi, MD and CEO of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. says, “This is a truly novel memorial to the Organ Donors of Rajasthan and Dalmia Cement under its creative brand Craft Béton has been privileged to have been associated in making it a reality. Not only because it is a befitting tribute to these selfless souls whose gift breathed life to others, but also because public art of this kind is so necessary to breathe life into our cities. Also, through the launch of this memorial, we aim to create awareness about the importance of organ donation and motivate people to help others even after they are gone.”

Talking about the Angdata Smarak, Mr. Sundeep Kumar, CEO, Craft Béton says, “Our brand Craft Béton stands for contemporary functional art created in cement, including public art. This installation is another fine example of this. While paying tribute to the Organ Donors of Rajasthan and creating awareness for this cause it also helps in further enhancing the beauty of Jaipur’s cityscape.”

Indian Organ Donation Day on the 27th November aims to motivate human beings to pledge to donate organs after death, and to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.
