Dalmia Bharat Partners with DGMS to Successfully Conclude 18th North East Grand Metalliferous Mines Safety Week

Event witnessed remarkable sector participation including 250 delegates from 17 mining companies in the region

DCBL’s  Limestone Mines in Assam & Meghalaya bags 15 awards  in various categories 

Guwahati, Shillong, 24 September, 2022: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited (DCBL), a leading Indian cement major and a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Limited, successfully concluded the 18th North East Grand Metalliferous Mines Safety Week in Guwahati recently, under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Government of India. The event was graced by Chief Guest, Shri Ujjwal Tah, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety Eastern Zone. DCBL’s employees, partners, as well as dignitaries from the local administration were also present at the event.

The 18th edition of the Grand Metalliferous Mines Safety Week saw a remarkable turnout from the region’s industry fraternity including over 250 delegates from 17 mining companies that participated in the function and were awarded in various categories basis evaluations completed during the Mines Inspection. DCBL’s Jamunanagar Limestone Mines in Umrangso, Assam, bagged the overall 1st Prize at the NE Metalliferous Mines Safety Week for the year 2019-2020 and the overall 3rd Prize at the NE Metalliferous Mines Safety Week for the year 2020-2021. The team also received 13 individual prizes in various trade test competition categories. Additionally, DCBL’s Meghalaya Limestone Mines won the overall 2nd Prize in NE Metalliferous Mines Safety Week for the year 2021, 1st prize in the First Aid Competition, 6 prizes in the Mines Inspection category, and 9 individual prizes in trade test competition categories.

Mr. Yohan Yejerla, Director of Mines Safety, Directorate General of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region presided over the function as the Guest of Honour and was joined by The Director of Mines Safety Electrical & Mechanical respectively along with their Deputies. 

Commenting on the success of the event, Mr. Yohan Yejerla, Director of Mines Safety, Directorate General of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region said, “It gives us great privilege to have been able to successfully celebrate the 18th NE Metalliferous Mines Safety week 2021. Safety week is a momentous occasion held every year to propagate the message of safety at the workplace and include safe mining practices amongst mine workers. The main purpose of safety week is to involve all mine owners and employees to work collaboratively towards safe mining practices and significantly reduce accidents in mines as well as the mining industry as a whole.”

The concluding day function was hosted by Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd., Meghalaya Unit and Shri Padmanav Chakravarty, Regional Manufacturing Head for DCBL North East, delivered a keynote speech on safety. This was followed by Shri SK Rout, Deputy ED, National Mining Operation at DCBL and Shri Raju Ranjan Prasad, DCBL’s Meghalaya Unit Head delivering the Welcome Speech and Vote of Thanks, respectively.

Speaking at the function, Shri Padmanav Chakravarty, Regional Manufacturing Head, North East, DCBL said, “Safety has always been of prime significance to us and are therefore commited to focusing our efforts to create awareness about the criticality of maintaining safe and healthy working conditions.
