Dalmia Cement holds its Annual Technocrats Meet at Ranchi

Ranchi, March 23, 2024: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited (DCBL), India’s leading cement manufacturing company and a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Ltd (DBL) hosted its Annual Technocrats Meet in Ranchi highlighting sustainable construction practices. As the region anticipates rapid expansion in infrastructure development, the session convened engineers and architects to weigh upon sustainable options in infrastructure space amidst escalating climate change challenges. India’s buildings and construction sector is highly carbon-intensive, accounting to around one-sixth of the country’s total GHG emissions. The discussions centered on transitioning from conventional construction methods to embracing innovative approaches to reduce the environmental impact of infrastructure projects.  This includes the adoption of High-grade concrete in large-scale infrastructure developments to promote sustainability. High grade concrete is more durable increasing the life span of the structure and reduces the requirement of frequent maintenance.  Strategies were also highlighted on how higher long-term strength for concrete can be achieved by optimizing particle size distribution and enhancing bonding in concrete, thereby reducing cement usage and carbon emissions. These innovative solutions not only help combat climate change but also promotes a greener and more resilient environment. The compelling sessions were led by Dalmia Cement’s technical team and officials with over 100 esteemed architects and engineers from Ranchi, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, and Gumla in attendance.

Commenting on this occasion, company spokesperson shared, “Dalmia Cement is committed to leading the ‘Grey to Green’ transition in the construction sector, advocating for the widespread adoption of sustainable building components. At the core of our infrastructure development lies the cement industry, foundation of many physical structures. With a target to reduce carbon emission intensity of our GDP by 33-35% by 2030, the cement sector, contributing approximately 8% of total CO2 emissions, holds a critical responsibility in combating climate change. Embracing sustainable construction practices is crucial for mitigating the ecological impact of large-scale construction and create healthier and sustainable communities for generations to come. We hope that through this informative session, we have successfully encouraged participants to actively engage in advancing sustainable construction practices.”

High-grade concrete requires specialized technology and rigorous on-site quality control, mainly used for designing leaner structures. It has been utilized in projects like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS). At the session, attendees were also introduced to Dalmia Cement’s innovative product offerings, including RCF expertise (Roof, Column, and Foundation) and Nano Bonding Technology which ensures structural integrity and eco-conscious construction and value-added service offerings.

Dalmia Cement has been a pioneer in sustainability, actively implementing green initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint in processes and operations. Guided by its business philosophy of “Clean and Green is Profitable and Sustainable”, Dalmia Cement has achieved one of the lowest carbon footprints globally in the cement sector, with CO2 emissions at 459 kg per ton (Q3FY24). It is the first cement group committed to becoming carbon negative by 2040.
